Anno Hideaki, the creator of the blockbuster Neon Genesis Evangelion, confirmed that many new projects under the Evangelion brand are being planned.

Shin Seiki Evangelion (Neon Genesis Evangelion) is showing signs of a strong return with the latest film titled Rebuild of Evangelion, by remaking the legendary series and bringing some new stories into the world of Shinji Ikari. However, in a recent interview, Anno confirmed that there are more projects in the Evangelion universe being developed, although it is possible that those projects do not have his participation.

Hideaki Anno is currently on an extended vacation after completing a series of anime and film projects over the decades. Most recently, Anno helped develop Shin Universe in Shin Kamen Rider, after that he did not accept any new works. In a new interview with Asahi news agency, Anno said he was feeling exhausted after years of hard work: “I just released movies for three years in a row and I'm completely exhausted. I think I need more time to rest before returning to directing. I will be taking a break from my film career for a while, I will be working on ‘ Yamato ‘ (a special project commemorating the 50th anniversary of ‘ Space Battleship Yamato ‘). My schedule has been compressed due to the coronavirus pandemic, so I'm physically and mentally exhausted from releasing new works. I'm not a person with strong will and when I release a work, I hardly have the mind to think about other things."

In the same interview, Anno revealed that many new Evangelion anime are being planned but he did not share details about the content. Director Hideaki Anno believes that the Evangelion brand will still thrive without his presence, and does not rule out the possibility that this director will be absent from the upcoming project.
