The expected release time for the anime titled Terminator Zero

Recently, Netflix announced a new image along with the expected release time for the anime based on the Terminator brand called Terminator Zero.

Accordingly, the anime project inspired by the famous Terminator series released by Netflix called Terminator will officially air on August 29 with the title Terminator Zero. Skydance, Production IG and executive producer Mattson Tomlin have confirmed that the new series will consist of eight episodes.

Netflix describes the plot of Terminator Zero as follows:

Year 2022: World war has been raging for decades between the few lucky survivors of humanity and the endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gains self-awareness and begins its war against humanity. Trapped between the future and the past, a robot from the future is sent to the past to change the fate of humanity. The mission is to return to 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee, who is working to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet's impending attack on humanity. From here, Malcolm Lee had to face many threats that turned his peaceful life upside down. At the same time, events related to artificial intelligence forever changed the fate of his three children.

The plot of the original film is about a robot assassin known as the Terminator, who travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, whose unborn son will save humanity in the future. 

The Terminator sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese, who has discovered the threat from Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that will spark a nuclear disaster. The plot of Terminator Zero is set in the same universe as the original film, but the anime has the appearance of many new characters.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the new animated series, Terminator Zero director and executive producer Mattson Tomlin explained that while there will be connections to the original Terminator films, the stories of those works will takes place in the same universe as the anime version, however Terminator Zero will have many differences by creating many new characters. In addition to John Connor not appearing in the upcoming anime, Tomlin explained that the film's direction is to explore new characters rather than tell another story about Connor.
